Tournament breeds loss in office productivity – 13 WTHR – Indianapolis News | < /p>
Ha! This assumes people were productive to start with! Seriously, where do they come up with numbers like this???

Still displeased with his intervention leading to VY being re-names QB1, and now Bud pulls this: http://mashable.com/2009/11/16/bud-adams-youtube/. Aside from the fact that an 86 year old man should REALLY know better (not to mention RETIRE ALREADY), how are you the owner of a team who’s … wait for it … 3 – 6, and feel justified in flipping off ANYBODY?!!

I don’t care HOW shock absorbant this thing is, my iPod is NOT docking in a basketball goal! %-)

Yeah, that’d be me! Okay, technically I am in a TIE for first-place, but still … after coming in DEAD LAST in last year’s bracket challenge, this is good. Very good!
Of course, it may not last long…I have Gonzaga over UNC in Friday’s game!
Here’s the proof…

Check out the Cranky Professor’s blog on this – pretty hilarious!
Yes, I know we started out the 2005-2006 football season 4-0 as well (under Jay Cutler), and that a still-stunning loss to MTSU in game 5 sent us into a downward spiral that ended in a 5-6 overall season (though beating UT in the final game ALMOST made it worth it, and Cutler was rewarded by being the 11th overall draft pick). And I also know that our next game against Auburn is going to be on a whole different level than the first 4 have been.
BUT, it’s still pretty cool – keep in mind, Vanderbilt has only gone the THREE bowl games EVER, has NEVER won the conference title, and has not even had a winning season since Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical” was at the top of the pop charts (that’d be 1982, for you non-’80s buffs). Plus, even though Auburn is likely to crush us like a bug, we have a very good chance at beating Mississippi St and Tennessee, and we should definitely beat Duke, Wake Forest & Kentucky.
My prediction: we end the season with 7 wins, and are bowl-bound baby!!! That is, unless the apocalypse comes before then!

WHY is NBC wasting Mary Carillo on these ridiculous slice of life pieces from China during these Olympics? She’s a very witty, smart, quick & savvy – yet she comes off in these pieces making herself (and Americans in general) look like a total idiot. Tonight’s piece is a case in point – they sent her all over Beijing getting her to eat the most bizarre things she could find, each time with her saying “This is really good”. Truly – same phrase each time, including the time when she looked like she was about to hurl all over the table.
Sigh…

I try REALLY hard, given my profession and all, not to buy into stereotypes. But I’ve been to France too many times and seen the arrogance, and the disdain for the US…and then the twit on the French team said our swim team was nothing and they were going to smash us…and then Jason Lezak swam the most amazing 50 meters EVER…gotta admit, I was pretty pumped up watching that relay race tonight!

Yes, it was the most amazing opening ceremony I’ve ever seen. The firework footsteps approaching the stadium, the drum/light sequence, the ginormous LCD monitor with the elements that lifted off the screen – absolutely stunning visually. And yes, they get kudos for embracing (some) aspects of their past in the creative portion of the program.
BUT, for me it does not change a thing, or make it okay that they’re giving a political regime like they are with an opportunity like this. Can you forget their appallingly slow response to the Sichuan earthquake earlier this year? (Not that W’s response to Hurricane Katrina was any better, but that’s another story). Can you forget Taiwan? Tibet? Hong Kong? Tiennamen Square?
Or look more recently at their actions – they *literally* threw ALL of the homeless people out of Beijing – didn’t help them, just kicked them out. They also forced restaurants and shops to close if they were visually unappealing. They gave director Zhang Yimou a basically unlimited budget for the Olympic opening ceremony, while a huge chunk of their population is impoverished (especially those who were forcibly removed from their homes – without compensation – so they could build the Olympic venues).
They don’t want to OPEN themselves to the world – what all these idiot commentators keep saying. They want to paint a beautiful picture for the world and pretend that the picture if real. Unfortunately, a lot of people are buying it. And it’s just not okay.
The fireworks were wicked though!

What fun! I love the Olympics. Though they’d be a lot more fun with …
1. Bumper cars – seriously, can’t you picture it now?!!
2. Dodgeball – talk about a new diplomatic solution!
Can’t think of any more clever ones, but I do think these two would be awesome.
I truly don’t know why things like Rugby & Lacrosse aren’t in already. Croquet and Tug-of-War used to be Olympic sports, I’d be in favor of bringing those back.
Several other people suggested Hula-Hooping, Twister & some type of Survivor-style obstacle course, those seem like a good idea.
Know what I think should NOT be an Olympic sport? Synchronized ANYTHING – those people are down right freaky!!!

Wow, I gotta admit, the racket run by the W administration over the course of the past 8 years has me feeling pretty down on the US lately – so, I was glad to get this “assignment”, to help me focus on the positives. And there are a lot! The W regime is so morally bankrupt and utterly disgusting, it is hard to remember that sometimes.
I saw from other people’s lists, most folk were using the entire scope of US history. I decided, though, to focus only on things that have happened in my lifetime. Basically, for the reasons mentioned above – things that I have actually seen, or heard, or even been a part of that remind me of the creativity and drive, the diversity, the strength and resilience even in the face of adversity that sum up “America” for me.
1. Standing in the (very long) lines to donate blood after the 9/11 attacks – it didn’t last nearly long enough, but the absence of partisan politics as usual and the sense of solidarity in the immediate aftermath was amazing.
2. The 1st time the Space Shuttle went back up after the Challenger explosion
3. August 1, 1981: I Want My MTV!
I will never forget sitting (way too close) to the screen in front of our 19″ TV (that still had a dial on it that we used to change channels before we got cable) watching that very first video.
4. Keri Strug’s 2nd vault at the 1996 Olympics – talk about taking one for the team!
5. Roe v Wade – yeah, I was only 2 and don’t exactly remember it, but it was an amazing advancement for women everywhere
6. Bill Clinton being acquitted by the Senate in February 1999, after the idiocy of the House in impeaching him (on my birthday no less!) in December 1998.
7. The day Apple released the iPod
8. The day Apple released the iPhone – possibly the most perfect device ever invented!
9. The world NOT ending as we know it on it @ Y2K
10. The first time I ever heard a Barack Obama give a speech
p.s. On January 20, 2009, this list will change, as the image of W getting on a helicopter and leaving the White House will become my new #1.

Ha! Puke (Duke) lost tonight!!! No repeat for them this time, thanks to Indiana (who, by the way, have not gotten the respect they deserve this year). I was so excited, I was dancing all around the living room, trying not to yell too loudly since I didn’t want to wake up Sami. For those of you who don’t know, I ***HATE*** Duke’s basketball team. Nothing but a bunch of arrogrant punk asses! As an example, Indiana’s coach said that yesterday during the pre-game conference between the two teams, one of the Puke players asked Coach K what time they played on Saturday. Well, now they won’t be playing any more until fall! No one deserves it more. Just thought I’d share…
In other news, Sami’s new thing is saying “uh-oh”. She loves to say it so much that she drops things on purpose, just so she can say “uh-oh”. It *is* very cute, except when she drops things like her bowl of spaghetti-o’s, or Craig’s open beer can…
