Okay, this week’s TOT will reveal the sad fact that, deep down inside, I’m really a top-40 pop-y kind of girl! %-) And that recently I have come to appreciate more and more (gasp!) country music. Who’d ‘ thunk, given where I live and all!

Here are my current favorite 10 “feel good” songs:
1. Summertime (Kenny Chesney)
2. A Girl’s Gotta Do (Mindy McCready)
3. Where the Water’s Deep (Bonepony)
4. Unwell (Matchbox Twenty)
5. All I Want (Toad the Wet Sprocket)
6. Drift Away (Dobie Gray)
7. Man I Feel Like a Woman (Shania Twain)
8. Don’t Worry, Be Happy (Bobby McFerrin)
9. Simple Things (Jim Brickman & Rebecca Lynn Howard)
10. Girls Lie Too (Terri Clark)

I’ve planned for this day – literally – for almost two years. I researched virtually every school within a 50 mile radius of my house – okay, that’s an exxageration, but only a very slight one. I visited almost 20 schools, public & private, in THREE different counties. We finally found the “perfect” school for us. Sami has been excited about the prospects of going to big kid school – not to mention getting to buy new stuff! And she’s been in preschool since she was 5 months old – it’s not like she’s never been in a situation like this before.

I knew I’d be sad. It’s my baby girl going off to face the big, bad world, after all! But I thought she’d be fine. I was wrong…

She CRIED – not just little tears, either – sobs. She kept saying “don’t leave me”, “I hate kindergarten, I want to go back to preschool”, etc. I was so horrible, I still can’t even believe it. Now I’m sitting in my office and I’m crying – which I hate to do, especially at work!

Dropping Eli off afterward at his school was funny – he was very happy to be in the “big kid” classroom. He said to me “I’m not going to cry like Sami”. Which, of course, made me cry more.

I totally underestimated the scariness of it from her perspective – a whole new place, with all new people. There’s not a single person from her preschool in her class, and only one other person in the whole grade is from her preschool. Things I forgot to factor into my decision about the “perfect” school!

And if one more person (including my DH), pats me on the back (or says “awww” on the phone) and tells me not to worry, it’ll all be fine, I might seriously punch them in the face!

To think when I first found out the first two days of school would be half days, I thought it was stupid! And now I’m counting the minutes until I can go pick her up…
