It’s been a while since one of these was posted, glad they’re back!
I get to travel a lot due both to conferences through work, and also the fact that both Craig & I LOVE to travel, and want the kids to grow up loving it as well. Still, there are always more places to explore … here are my current heart’s desires, travel-wise:
1. Portugal – Craig’s going there for a conference without me next month, and I’m sad to be missing it! ![]()
2. Copper Canyon, Mexico – supposed to be just as gorgeous as our Grand Canyon, with the added bonus of a train that runs all the way around the outer rim and MUCH less tourism
3. Fiji – we almost went here on our honeymoon, but we spent too much on the wedding!
We’re hoping to go there as a 10 year anniversary trip
4. Russia, especially St Petersberg – ever since I read War & Peace, I’ve wanted to go here
5. Scotland – my friend Susan’s sister lives there, and she says it’s beautiful
6. Auschwitz – because I should (actually we all should)
7. Spain – because I missed a conference there when I was pregnant with Eli
8. Ireland – who can pass up the world’s greatest pub crawl!
9. Egypt – to see the pyramids
10. Israel – once things calm down a bit more

This new show on Showtime called Weeds is hilarious!!! Mary Louise Parker is awesome as the spunky housewife who starts dealing pot to maintain her lifestyle after her husband dies unexpectedly. And the supporting cast is great, too.
In particular we love making fun of the cookie-cutter-ness of the planned community where they live. Planned communities are the new big thing around here, and *so* many of our friends have (inexplicably, in our view) gone down that road. I just don’t get why it’s fun, cool, logical (insert any positive word you can think of here), to live in a house that’s exactly the same as everyone else’s in the neighborhood, and where “the neighborhood association” gets to tell you what kind of fences you have to use, what kinds of play equipment you’re allowed to buy for your kids, what kinds of decorations you can put on your house, etc., etc. Utterly mystifying. The theme song “Little Boxes”, by Malvina Reynolds, perfectly captures our feelings on this topic!
