Well, Sami was five months old on Tuesday! Hard to believe she has been with us that long. She continues to be a most delightful child. She is still very pleasant and happy, but she is showing signs of having a very strong will, as well. As Leslie says, we are going to have our hands full as she grows up!
Right now two things are going on. First, and on the positive side, Sami has started to eat solid food (well, at least that incredibly bland rice cereal the docs like to start kids out on) — we tried to start her on it a few weeks ago, but she wasn’t interested. However, for the past two weeks we have been on vacation, traveling by car to see both our families, etc (a really great trip!), and while we were gone she showed lots of interest in what we were doing whenever we would eat. So, once we were back home (last Thursday), we tried the cereal again — and now she loves it. One great thing is she already, after a couple of days is trying to feed herself — grabbing the spoon and guiding it too her mouth. She doesn’t really know what she is doing — so this is a messy actvity — but quite fun — and one of the signs that she is going to be a handful!
The other thing going on is that Sami has been sick for the past two days. Running a fever and generally feeling miserable. I think I have the same thing she does (and I think we picked it up during our travels), and it is a mild but miserable cold — with a bit of a stuffy nose, but mostly an annoying cough and a sore throat. Sami also is running a little fever (which I do not believe I am), to add to her fun. As bad as she must feel physically, though, she maintains here very good humor. She is quite a bit more fussy than normal, but you can tell that even with this illness she is trying to be as happy and as cheerful as she can manage. I like that!
OK, I was doing this while I waited for her to drift off to sleep, since she was in a fussy restless spell. She appears to have conked, so I will sign off …. More later ….
